Benefits Entitlement and How to Claim

The Government website on disabilities gives comprehensive information on all the disability benefits that are available to disabled people but a few important benefits are listed below.

Need Advice?

The best bit of advice is to contact an advisory service such as the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) if you are unsure about your entitlement.

Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

Incapacity Benefit has now been replaced by ESA.

ESA is intended for people with a medical condition that prevents them from working. The MS Society have a booklet to help you make a claim.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has replaced Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults under 65.

PIP is based on an assessment of individual need. To find out more check the National MS website here or have a look at their booklet.

Attendance Allowance

If you are aged 65 or older with care needs and not receiving DLA or PIP. Find out more on the Government website.

Carer's Allowance

If someone spends at least 35 hours a week caring for you, they may claim Carer's Allowance. Rules are complicated; find out more on the Government website.
